Texas at Austin University

The University of Texas at Austin formally open on Sept. 15, 1883. 




Dr. John W. Hammer, teacher of science and the first director of the staff, tended to a group of people of 300 who had gone to the unfinished Main Building to witness the seedling of a college being planted on College Hill. He said, If Texas is to have a college of the top of the line. Its improvement must be the consequence of the united endeavors of the populace of Texas, of the state government, of the Board of Regents, of the staff, or more all, of the understudies of the college."

Tower 
Tower lit orange with No. 1 for Rose Bowl title The Tower has been The University of Texas at Austin's most unmistakable milestone and image since it was finished in 1937. At 307 feet, the 27-story Tower can be seen from any area in Austin.

Bevo 

Bevo, a Texas longhorn, has been the school's mascot since 1916. The longhorn speaks to the pride and custom of the college. 
Snare 'em, Horns 

Made in 1955 by head team promoter Harley Clark Jr., the "Snare 'em, Horns" hand sign is perceived worldwide as the image of the Texas Longhorns.

The Longhorn Band, regularly alluded to as “The Show band of the Southwest” is one of the country's most perceived and commended walking groups.
